Holomua Outreach Timeline

(November 2023 – April 2026)

Holomua Outreach began in November 2023 with a simple but consistent commitment: to show up for our houseless community along Holomua Road. What started as weekly outreach providing hot meals, water, and hygiene quickly became something deeper—building trust, pilina, and relationships with lineal and generational descendants of the moku.

As that trust grew, so did the work. By early 2024, Holomua Outreach expanded through partnerships with Maui Rapid Response, Maui Rescue Mission, and other grassroots allies. Together, we began offering showers, laundry access, and donation hubs, while helping community members secure photo IDs, SNAP benefits, and medical insurance—removing barriers that kept people stuck.

Throughout 2024, the work evolved beyond direct care into action and advocacy. Cleanups became regular, addressing trash, green waste, and unsafe conditions in communities that had long been overlooked. At the same time, Holomua Outreach began shaping a vision for long-term solutions rooted in culture, dignity, and self-determination.

By 2025, the impact had expanded across Maui—from Holomua Road to Kahului, Lahaina, and beyond. We supported community events, fed our houseless communities during La Kūʻokoʻa, and continued building relationships across moku. By the end of the year, Holomua Outreach was providing care across Central, West, Upcountry, and North Shore Maui, responding to need wherever it showed up.

In early 2026, the work deepened into structure and sustainability. We launched the Environmental and Food Systems Workforce Development Cohorts, creating pathways for individuals from these communities to step into paid roles, gain skills, and restore the very spaces they live in. Cleanups expanded into larger-scale efforts, including Kapuʻali and Holomua Road, reducing environmental hazards and improving safety.

At the same time, Holomua Outreach continued to show up in moments of crisis—supporting emergency shelter activation for the unhoused and vulnerable, and providing disaster recovery kōkua on Molokaʻi. Fundraisers like our laulau campaign helped sustain this work, powered by community support and collective effort.

Through every phase, Holomua Outreach has remained grounded in one purpose: to mālama poʻe and mālama ʻāina—caring for our people and our land together. What began as outreach has grown into a movement rooted in healing, restoration, and building real pathways forward for our community.

This is the continuation of hana. This is Holomua.
